Religion wins again - by a whisker

A Saudi academic, Hamza al-Muzaini, a lecturer in linguistics at King Saud University, has been sentenced to two hundred lashes and four months in prison under sharia law. His crime was to defame a colleague, Abdullah al-Barak, a lecturer in Islamic culture, by 'mocking his long beard'. (Agence France-Presse report of 21 March 2005)

Growing whiskers is up there with preventing bed sales it seems in the religious POSIWID stakes.
