Exploring the Purpose of Things

I have decided to change the name of this blog, to make it more meaningful to more people. That's the purpose of a title anyway, isn't it?

The URL and feed details all stay the same, and all the old posts are unchanged. Subscribers don't need to do anything, and the search engines probably won't notice. So the name change doesn't really make any difference does it?

Some people might think this blog jumps around a bit. Sometimes I'm talking about the US election, and then I start talking about cheese. Of course I hope that each topic makes sense on its own, but I also hope that if you look across the different topics you will see (as I do) some interesting patterns of purpose and purposiveness emerging.

Feed Splicing

I have changed my mind about Feed Splicing, and I have decided to discontinue splicing the del.icio.us/posiwid links into this blog feed.

New Home

There has been a problem on the DontPanic site, so I have moved the POSIWID blog onto a new host. If you are subscribed to the Feedburner feed, you shouldn't be affected, except possibly for some repeated posts.

Blogger Labels and RSS/Atom

I wish to apologize to subscribers of the RSS/Atom feed if some old posts have been reappearing in your newsreader.

I think the most likely explanation for this is that Blogger seems to regenerate the Atom/RSS entry when I add labels to old posts. Blogger has only recently introduced the ability to add labels to posts, so the older posts were unlabeled. I thought it would be useful to add labels to some of these older posts, but obviously not if it's going to annoy subscribers.

I probably need to find some other way to help people navigate the older stuff. I have also been experimenting with Squidoo. Other suggestions and comments welcome.

Squidoo Lens

I have added a POSIWID lens to Squidoo. This replaces the summary page on my website, which I haven't updated for years.

There is some advertising on the site. As site author, I get a share of the advertising revenue, but I'm not expecting this to be more than a few pennies a quarter so I'm donating my share to Oxfam.

Please let me know what you think. Does the advertising bother you? (I haven't got used to it myself yet.)
